Easy Savings – Get the Air Out (of those bags)

September 18, 2008 – 4:27 pm

Here’s a quick tip for those who didn’t know the importance of air! Huh?

blowcAir + food + time = spoilage (or at least staleage and bad-tasteage). Get the air out of those bags pronto! and you’ll save yourself a buck or two, or twenty or forty. For any food item, whether pre-packaged or placed into plastic storage bags, remove as many air pockets as possible, then squeeze the last drop of air out of the top of the bag as best you can. For those zip-top bags, zip from one end to the other, leaving about an inch of opened space, then squeeze the remaining air out.

Bags of bread – squeeze ‘em. (You can freeze ‘em too!)

breadPotato chips – crunch ‘em then squeeze ‘em.

Pancake mix – flap ‘em (like flapjacks), squeeze the bag down, then close the box securely.

Cereals – grab the toy then squeeze ‘em (the plastic, not the toy) down far into the box.

Crackers – …you get the point.

Happy savings!
