Ever have your favorite water bottle suddenly spring a leak? I have. My latest leak was about 2 inches from the top of the bottle. I could probably go without filling it to the very top, but why should I be deprived of the final ounces of my Raspberry Tea drink mix?
Here’s a quick and easy fix for your leaky bottle: wax. Light a candle and allow a few drops of melted wax to fall right onto the leak area on the bottle. Quickly spread the wax over the area with your finger. Repeat the process until the entire area is sealed.
Don’t worry about the mess. Wax cleans up pretty easily. Simply scrape the excess away with your nail or a butter knife.
As an alternative, you could fill small leaks (like a slit in the plastic) with some petroleum jelly. Rub on a bit of the jelly onto the slit with your fingertip and wipe away the excess with a tissue.
Click to visit this external linkwiseGEEK says:
Petroleum jelly is a mixture of hydrocarbons which is semisolid at room temperature, and it is also odorless, when properly refined. It is used in a variety of industries, although many people associate it with the popular Vaseline® brand personal care product. It may also be marketed as petrolatum or soft paraffin. Many general stores carry petroleum jelly, and it can also be found at medical supply houses and drugstores.
Here’s another option. If you have a hot glue gun laying around, load it up with a low-temp glue stick and hot caulk your leaky water bottle.
The glue is can be spread for a few moments after it’s applied.
Here’s one more. Good old lip balm is a great quick-fix for when you’re out an about. Apply it the same as the options above. You get the added benefit of a nice smelling fix!
And finally, small slits in plastic can be filled in with ordinary crayons. Let your inner child out and mark right over the offending leak line.
